Clem Green's contribution to veteran athletics
in the Oceania Region and particularly in New Zealand was recognised
by the
award of Life Membership of OAVA at the Assembly Meeting in
1990 at Auckland.
His service to New Zealand veteran athletics has also been
recognised by Life Membership of NZAVA.
Following the early years of the sport in New Zealand, the
need for some form of co-ordinating body was identified, and
in
1971 the first steps were taken when Clem Green was appointed
National Co-ordinator. He continued in this role until 1983,
when a revised Constitution was adopted by NZAVA.
He was for many years the Oceania representative at WAVA, and
continued to handle international portfolio responsibilities
for NZAVA until 1988.
His contribution to WAVA was recognised in 1991 by his appointment
as an Honarary Life Vice-President of WAVA.
Over his many years of work for veteran athletics Clem travelled
extensively in the Oceania region, often at his own
expense, and buit up extensive contacts in many affiliates.
There is no doubt these efforts were significant in the growth
of
veteran athletics in Oceania. His vision and determination
resulted in the first Oceania Regional Championships being
held
in Fiji in 1982.
Clem held various offices in OAVA over the years, and has been
Patron of the association since 1992.
